Netflix's 'Maa Behen' Brings Together Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri — Release Date Announced

Netflix India has just unveiled the first look and official release date for Maa Behen, a crime-comedy that pairs two of Bollywood’s most magnetic screen presences — the legendary Madhuri Dixit and the unstoppable Triptii Dimri. The film drops on Netflix on July 18, 2026, and it is already being called the most exciting OTT release of the year.

The Premise

Maa Behen follows the story of a seemingly ordinary mother-daughter duo from a small North Indian town who secretly run an elaborate con operation. When a botched heist puts them on the radar of both the local police and a dangerous crime syndicate, the pair must use every trick in their playbook — and invent a few new ones — to survive. Think Thelma and Louise meets Bunty Aur Babli, with a distinctly dark comedic edge.

The first-look poster features Madhuri in a floral salwar kameez holding a rolling pin in one hand and a wad of cash in the other, while Triptii stands behind her in sunglasses and a leather jacket, counting money. The tagline reads: “Family business has never been this criminal.”

The Dream Casting

On paper, pairing Madhuri Dixit with Triptii Dimri seems unexpected. One is a 90s icon, the queen of grace and dance. The other is Gen-Z’s breakout star, known for bold choices and raw intensity. But that contrast is precisely what makes the casting genius.

Director Neeraj Pandey, known for taut thrillers like A Wednesday and Special 26, said in a statement: “Madhuri brings a warmth and mischief that makes you root for her even when she is breaking the law. Triptii brings an electric unpredictability. Together, they are magic.”

Netflix’s Biggest Bet of the Year

Netflix India has been on an aggressive content acquisition spree, and Maa Behen represents their marquee Indian original for 2026. The streaming giant has reportedly invested heavily in the production, with the film featuring high production values, international shoot locations, and a top-tier supporting cast that includes Vijay Raaz and Rajpal Yadav in comedic roles.

The strategy is clear — Netflix wants a film that appeals to both the family audience that adores Madhuri and the younger demographic that has made Triptii one of Bollywood’s most-followed stars. Early internal screenings have reportedly generated overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Madhuri’s OTT Evolution

For Madhuri, Maa Behen represents another step in her successful OTT pivot. After the well-received The Fame Game on Netflix, the actress has found a creative freedom on streaming platforms that theatrical releases often cannot offer. “OTT lets you tell layered stories without the pressure of opening weekends,” Madhuri shared during a virtual press event.

Triptii’s Unstoppable Rise

For Triptii Dimri, who went from indie darling in Bulbbul to mainstream sensation after Animal, Maa Behen is another strong addition to a filmography that refuses to be boxed in. Working alongside Madhuri Dixit is a full-circle moment for the actress, who has spoken about growing up watching Madhuri’s films on television.

The Verdict Before the Release

With a proven director, dream casting, a crowd-pleasing genre, and Netflix’s marketing muscle behind it, Maa Behen has all the ingredients of a streaming blockbuster. Mark July 18 on your calendars.
