War 3 raises the stakes for the YRF Spy Universe by pitting two of Indian cinema’s biggest action stars against each other, and largely succeeds in making the showdown feel worth the wait.

Story

Kabir is pulled out of hiding when a rogue operative, Vikram, begins dismantling India’s intelligence network from within. What starts as a manhunt turns into a globe-trotting cat-and-mouse game that forces Kabir to question who he can still trust.

What Works

Hrithik Roshan slips back into Kabir with total ease, but it’s the Hrithik–Jr NTR dynamic that carries the film. Their extended one-on-one in the film’s second half — part fight, part conversation — is the clear highlight, and the production makes full use of Jr NTR’s physicality without leaning on gimmicks. The action set-pieces are shot with more clarity than the franchise’s previous entries, and the sound design in the mid-air sequence is genuinely immersive on a big screen.

What Could Be Better

The plot mechanics are, once again, secondary to the spectacle — anyone looking for a tightly wound spy thriller will find the twists telegraphed early. A subplot involving Kabir’s past is under-explained and feels like set-up for a future installment rather than a complete arc here.

Final Verdict

War 3 doesn’t try to reinvent the franchise formula, but it executes it at a higher level than its predecessors, largely thanks to a genuinely compelling pairing at its center. Worth watching on the biggest screen available.
